Habits
- 2010 The Island Def Jam
HABITS, produced by the band’s friend, singer/guitarist Tim Pagnotta, is a blast of timeless rock energy and spirit that wouldn’t sound out of place at any point from ’60s garage-rock to 2010 dance rock and beyond. “Music is a sacred act of communion for me, offering hope and love,” says Tyler. “That’s the heart of this band.” Adds Chris, “We just want to share that feeling we got from the bands that inspired us, and then we want to pass the torch.” Habits

You may not realize it on your first listen to Animal, or any of the other tracks, but you’ll have at least one of these ten songs stuck in your head the rest of the day. Make sure to get the two bonus tracks, as Farther Down is one of their finest songs which was sadly left off the album. Our War is another favorite, but it is hard to top the opener Sins of my Youth which is one of their most powerful songs.
Elaine pounds the drums live, and you’ll be hitting along on your steering wheel or desk with her as you listen. Branden’s bass is much more in your face than 99% of other bands out there, and for good reason. The rhythm section truly work together to make this band what it is - listen to the intro of Love & Affection, for example. Chris’ guitar work accents the solid rhythm section with melodies and chords that lurk in the background completing the song, like the outro to Farther Down, but also can stand out on their own when needed, like the main riff of Sins of my Youth. Finally Tyler somehow manages to combine Springsteen, Morrissey, & MJ all into one performer with powerful lyrics & an amazing stage presence. You can’t help but sing along to the man.

I had the good fortune to see this band open for 30 Seconds To Mars in Vegas and LA and was blown away by their performance. Seeing them live they seemed like a very humble and cool band out of Utah who are starting to see the fruits of their work. I really dig Love & Affection and was happy to hear the chorus from Animal on a TV ad for Vegas the other day. I highly recommend this CD to everyone which is filled with catchy hip tunes that will stick with you as others have commented on.

This album has it all- deep lyrics, fun melodies, originality, and genuine. Going to a concert and meeting them is only that much more of an enhancement from the CD. The album hits common, relatable issues including love, friendship, drugs, being able to let go, and having fun. The melodies themselves help tell the story. It’s such a perfect combination. An undeniably underrated band that deserves more attention and mainstream popularity.
Addendum: The Vinyl version has a surprise with it where you can get the full album (and more). So even if you don’t have a record player, it’s worth buying the vinyl brand new before the end of 2010!

Such a GREAT album from beginning to end I just can’t stop listening to this one…in my personal opinion one of the best debut albums I’ve heard in a long while…
You WILL NOT be disappointed with any song on this album. The ONLY gripe I have is it’s only 9 songs which leaves me craving more and more…definitely made me a HUGE fan of Neon Trees I just want to eat them up!!

This is the type of album that you can listen to all the way through. Every song is catchy and gets stuck in your head after just one listen. I’ve been listening to this album practically non-stop for 3 days and I still want to turn it on, all the way up!
