With the ousting of the resident underdog Sanjaya Malakar, how will Idol maintain its amazing ratings? One answer would be the charitable event Idol is hosting entitled “Idol Gives Back”. More than just raising money for the impoverished children in Africa, it brings awareness of not only the suffering of the millions of people half a world away, but also of the grieving families and friends of the victims of the terrible events last Monday.
I believe people will not avoid the issues that face them, but take them head on. The news repeats those terrible images and videos which most of us wish they would lock away. No one really wants to hear the ramblings of a madman, and especially the graphic images of the assailant pointing those lethal instruments at the camera.
Idol will likely mention their heartfelt condolences during this Wednesday’s event, as with every celebrity that attends. While the entertainment business is mostly an escape from what we least desire, this Wednesday will bring to the spotlight a good cause.
It’s a general consensus that there probably won’t be a dry eye in the audience once the night is over. With so much suffering in the world and the horrible events in Virginia, hopefully what we all really desire is to find that reason to smile again.
